1. Manufacturing Aims & Objectives
Please describe in 50 words your Manufacturing Aims & Objectives for the forthcoming year.


2. On Time in Full (%).
Definition: A measure of the ability of the business to supply its goods at the time agreed with the customer at the quantity agreed and of the right quality.

A. Customer service is not formally recorded; problems are identified and resolved as they arise.
B. Information is available measuring the number of 'On time in full' deliveries, but it is not reviewed or widely circulated within the business.
C. The information available is widely circulated and used to manage and monitor the businesses performance.
D. Customer Service targets, are mutually agreed between the supplier and customer and joint activities are undertaken to ensure achievement.

 

3. New Product Lead-time (months).
Definition: is the length of time taken to bring a new product or service innovation to the market i.e. from start of design to market launch.
A. Projects are managed informally and there is limited managerial monitoring.
B. Projects are prioritised on a formal basis with regular reporting and management review of progress.
C. Projects are driven by the Business strategy, with forward planning of resources using systematic and formalised reporting systems.
D. Projects are managed using a formalised auditable design system, containing regular milestones, monitors for costs and required design outcomes.

 

4. Total Training days per employee.
Definition: A measure of the number of days of training provided to each employee throughout the calendar year, such training includes in-house and external training.
A. The company reviews its training needs on an informal basis, as and when required by current business.
B. The company has formal systems for assessing training needs that operate for the managerial and technical staff.
C. The company has can demonstrate formal systems for assessing the development and training needs of its entire workforce, which are coordinated across the business.
D. The company's approach commences with the needs of the Business Plan, which are communicated to all employees, who are then responsible for deciding their training and development needs using formal systems to record progress.

 

5. Safety Rate (accidents/100,000 hours).
Definition: The total number work related accidents and injuries expressed as a number per 100,000 worked hours for the business.
A. The company has formal systems for monitoring accidents in the workplace that meet minimum legal requirements.
B. The company reviews its safety performance on an ad hoc basis, as and when required by current business circumstances.
C. The company has and can demonstrate formal systems for evaluating and assessing near misses, reportable incidents and accidents.
D. The company adopts and fully complies with the requirements of an externally audited formal safety management system encompassing, proactive, preventative and reactive activities.

 

6. Not Right First Time (ppm).
Definition: measures the product’s ability to match a specification and is expressed in ‘number of parts per million’.
A. No formal systems are used to monitor supplied quality rate. Ad hoc monitoring occurs usually in response to customer issues.
B. A formal quality procedure is used for monitoring quality.
C. A quality system with regular external auditing is used, for capturing issues and uses internal management review and action plans.
D. The business uses an appropriate quality system with regular external auditing as part of its business strategy. The operation uses appropriate tools, with work groups capturing and using data and information to improve performance.

 

7. Overall Equipment Effectiveness (%).
Definition: is an indicator of the capability of the business to achieve the optimum level of plant availability, production output and right first time quality.
Overall Equipment Effectiveness% = Availability% x Quality rate% x Product rate%

A. There is limited formal monitoring of the key plant performance metrics of availability, quality rate or output rate.
B. There is formal monitoring of the key plant performance metrics but the information is not widely circulated or briefed within the plant.
C. The formal data is monitored and circulated within the plant and is used by management to identify opportunities to take the business forward in line with the business strategy.
D. The data is generated and owned by the shop floor teams, displayed at their workstations and used by them to improve plant performance in line with the business strategy.

 

8. Material Yield (%).
Definition: A measure that relates the input quantity of raw materials to the output quantity of finished product.
A. The company has informal systems to monitor material yield. Ad hoc monitoring occurs usually in response to material issues.
B. The company actively manages its internal production waste and takes steps to minimise waste at all levels of manufacture.
C. The company can demonstrate a 'Mass Balance' approach to the use of its raw materials with waste outputs fully identified and measured.
D. The company works both with Suppliers and Customers to reduce the overall environmental impact of the Supply Chain by eliminating waste and recycling materials.

 

9. Supplier OTIF (%).
Definition: A measure of the ability of the businesses suppliers to provide their goods at the time agreed, at the agreed quantity and the right quality.
A. Supplier performance is not formally recorded; problems are identified and resolved as they arise.
B. Information is available measuring the number of 'On Time In Full' deliveries, but is it is not reviewed or widely circulated within the business.
C. The information available is widely circulated and used to manage and monitor the suppliers' performance.
D. A supplier 'Service Level Agreement' is mutually agreed between the supplier and the business and joint activities undertaken to ensure achievement.

 

10. Stock turns.
Definition: A measure of the number of times that the stock (raw materials, work in progress, finished goods) turn within one year.
A. Business accounts record the level of inventory on a monthly basis. The simplest inventory recording systems are used.
B. Inventory levels are managed in accordance with general accounting policies. They are not formally linked to the external business environment.
C. Inventory levels are proactively managed in response to customer demand using computer based systems.
D. Forward demand information is jointly shared using ICT systems between customer and supplier to proactively minimise inventory costs and maximize order fulfilment.

 

11. Value Added per employee (EUR).
Definition: An indicator of the level of price that the customers are willing to pay over the cost of raw materials and an indicator of the level of output that the employees are enabled to achieve.
A. Value Added is not used as a concept by the business; the emphasis is on the control of operational costs.
B. Management review and design processes to maximize Value Added.
C. All employees understand Value Adding activities and are actively encouraged to become involved in waste elimination activities.
D. Value Added is viewed from a customer perspective and all the business activities are undertaken from this perspective.
