Experience Profile

SESDIP: Produced methodology & CAD tool based on Control Theory for the evaluation of alternative designs of Distributed Control Structures.

PRIMA II (PROCESS INDUSTRIES MANUFACTURING ADVANTAGE): Aimed at strengthening the competitive position of Europe's process industries. Identified the essential for future success technology, based on identification of the business drivers common to the industry sector.

ICIMS-NOE (INTELLIGENT CONTROL AND INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING): Stimulated & disseminated research on different aspects of the hierarchy of the manufacturing problem from technology to operations of plants & the Business-Enterprise activities.

SIM-SERV (VIRTUAL INSTITUTE FOR PRODUCT-ORIENTED SIMULATION SERVICES): On-going project. Activities include management of institute & provision of simulation expertise in area of process systems & simulation of business processes using advanced modelling tools.

Specialisms and Other Factors

The Centre for Systems & Modelling (CSM) of CUL is a new, interdisciplinary research centre, formed from the Control Engineering, School of Engineering, Statistics, Department of Mathematics & the School of Informatics. CSM recognises the fundamental need for achieving industrial relevance & integration of methods in all these fields of endeavour. Hence, it has established the Manufacturing Support Unit (MSU) which provides a central interface with potential users of its technology in industry. MSU operates by providing solutions to manufacturer's operational problems feeding back requirements into basic & applied research areas of CSM.
