A food company needed to objectively establish the operational effectiveness of its plant, guidance on the selection of an appropriate improvement strategy and assistance with the development of a targeted action plan. |

The overall project aims were:
To identify and evaluate current operational performance and practice.
Provide a "Gap Analysis" for the business quantifying the areas of improvement and the overall opportunity.
To develop an action plan with the business to enable it to implement the improvement strategy.

The project was delivered in the following phases:
The appropriate "operational assessment" and "benchmarking" tools were identified and applied to the business.
The appropriate support was provided to the business to ensure that the performance and practice data was correct and objective.
The data collected from the client was processed and practice and performance gaps were identified, analysed, quantified and prioritise and used to develop a benefits and time based action plan.

The project achieved the following:
Specified the business benefits of adopting and achieving the best operational practice and performance as over 1000 €k. The required improvements were subdivided into five areas of action across the operational spectrum.
The business is now moving forward with confidence, as it has a clear direction and methodology to enable it to implement a ‘modern lean operational strategy’ with which to improve its operational performance and can identify specific benefit outcomes to the plan of action.
Identified precisely where additional resources will be required and what these resources will deliver in order support the implementation plan for the lean operational strategy.
