Dynamic task allocation in multiple AGV systems
|
|
  |
|
Problem Statement
To develop a software sollution for the problem of allocating dynamically the tasks to a fleet of AGVs. |
Improvement Approach
The new approach implies the capability of moving transportation tasks between the set of AGVs in such a way that overall performance is optimised. |
Benefits
The direct benefit is the use of a smaller number of AGVs, and the associated cost reduction. |

IDIT's customer was the largest portuguese company in electrical engineering, and their customer was the Bank of China in Hong Kong.
The full system consists of a large automatic storage/retrieval system and a fleet of AGVs to load/unload the AS/RS.
Due to space restrictions, some long paths are shared by all the AGVs and if the tasks are allocated in the wrong order it is possible that long delays occur because one AGV may hold all the others that are behind.
Existing software couldn't deal with this problem. |
